AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PEOPLE OF KOGI (PART ONE)

I have been constrained to write this letter for two reasons:

One,  as concerned citizen of kogi state, I wish to add my voice to the myriads of voices that have been speaking and are still speaking.

Two, I am tired of the gory perception of Kogi state and it's people by persons outside of the state, nationally and perhaps internationally.
Just about last week at my place of work, a discussion ensued about kogi and what has been happening with our dear state, without burging you with the details of that discussion,  the popular opinion by those involved was that  we are known for everything wizardry, treachery, indolentious and all sorts of dispeakable things and phenomenon. I tried to as much as I could defend my dear state but in my heart I wept and mourned for the happenings in my state.

As a write this letter,  all tertiary institutions in the state is under lock and key, civil servants have  not and are not been paid, the state of road and other infrastructure in the state are in shambles, there are accusations and counter accusations by different stakeholders in the state,  attempts of assassination of politicians and by politicians has become the order of the day, safety and security of indigenes and residents is not guaranteed. Sadly, there seem to be no end in sight.

The choice however is ours to either objectively and constructively criticise happenings or twart issues and sacrifice integrity on the alter of mediocrity, political gains and tribal sentimentalism, which ever we do, posterity will judge us all.

Indeed, our political landscape has always been characterised by where people come from as against what people are bringing to the table, the resultant effects is evidential all around. Unless and until we search our souls and consentiuosly put aside the things that divide us and work to making kogi work, developments will forever elude us. The world is moving on, innovations are taking over and certainly there can be no excuses for our failure individually or collectively.

I wish to purse here till the part two,  in the meantime, I cease this opportunity to wish the newly appointed minister from our dear state (prof. Stephen Ocheni FNA) who happens to have taught me in KSU a hearty congratulations, Prof Sir, you will serve in health and wealth, it's an honor well deserved.

Companies that have adjusted to economic realities will seek listing – MD, Trust Yield Securities By Nkiruka Nnorom.

Just this first quarter, two companies, Jaiz Bank and Med-View Airline, listed their shares by introduction at the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, after a long lull in this market front. Alhaji Ola Yussuff, Managing Director/CEO, Trust Yield Securities Ltd, in this interview, expressed optimism that this might continue as more companies continue to adjust to the economic realities on ground. Excerpt: This year has started well for the stock exchange with two companies already listed. Do you see more companies coming on board this year? That is the expectation; we have started well and we expect that to continue. Obviously, there will be more. Why do you feel strongly that there will be more listings? It is a natural expectation. The market has been down for so long and everybody is waiting for the market to turn up and you now see a green shoot. After the green shoot, you then begin to see more light at the end of the tunnels. If for the past two to three years we haven’t ...

We’ve not called off strike, still consulting —ASUU

ABUJA — NATIONAL leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU,  yesterday, said it was not true that the indefinite strike declared last week had been called off. There was a report, weekend, that the strike had been suspended after the Federal Government representatives led by Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, and Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, met with the leadership of the union in Abuja, Wednesday. But the National President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, told Vanguard on telephone, yesterday, that there was no truth in the alleged suspension of the strike. Instead, he said the union was still consulting with the relevant stakeholders on the outcome of the meeting it had with government representatives. Asked when the union would meet again with government and when the National Executive Council, NEC, of ASUU would meet to take final decision, Ogunyemi said for now he was not aware of when to meet with government representati...

Mega companies that started from nothing

In the 21st century corporate world, a good number of new big businesses entered into the marketplace as a result of extensive research, careful planning, strategic alliances and investments. Business Angels, Venture Capitalists, and the big money bags came together with ideas and models that are largely based on decades of experience and expertise and they work to maximize profits. There are still companies, people and entrepreneurs however that start their own successful companies from the scratch with little or no experience and little or no money, “Rags of Riches” yes! That's what they are, stories of unique brands, started by unique individuals that does not only have accumulated  wealth and vast market share, but have created their own niche and never looked back.
