How to register for student membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria

Steps to becoming an ICAN member

APPROVED QUALIFICATIONS FOR REGISTRATION AS A PROFESSIONAL STUDENT

In order to register as a student with the Institute, an applicant must hold a
qualification not below University degree or its equivalent.

The Council has accepted the following qualifications for the purpose of entry requirements:
The degree of any University or Higher National Diploma of any Polytechnic
accredited by the Council.
(b) Any other qualification for the time being approved by the Council.

Approved meanwhile are:
(i) The final examination of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and
Administrators
(ii) The final examination of the former Corporation of Secretaries.
(iii) The final examination of the Association of International Accountants
(iv) The final examination of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria
(v) The final examination of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers
i) The final examination of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria
(vi) The final examination of the Association of Accounting Technicians,
U.K.
(vii) The final examination of the Association of National Accountants of
Nigeria (ANAN)
(viii) Executive Management Accountancy (Federal Treasury Training
School, Stage III)
(ix) The final examination of Accounting Technicians Scheme, West Africa
(ATSWA).

WHAT TO DO
(1)PAY 7000 (bank charges not included) PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION REGISTRATION FEE ON PAY DIRECT AT ANY COMMERCIAL BANK IN NIGERIA

(2) PROCEED WITH REGISTRATION AT THE WEBSITE ADDRESS INDICATED ON THE PAY DIRECT RECEIPT OBTAINED AT THE BANK AFTER PAYMENT.

(3) OBTAIN A COLOURED PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH OF YOURSELF. SCAN THE PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH ON THE FORM.

(4) PRINT OUT A COPY OF THE COMPLETED APPLICATION FORM

(5) APPEND YOUR SIGNATURE

(6) GET A CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT AS YOUR REFEREE/SPONSOR.

(7) PROVIDE HIS/HER MEMBERSHIP NUMBER, NAME AND PHONE NUMBER.

(8) TAKE THE PRINTED COPY OF THE COMPLETED APPLICATION FORM AND THE PHOTOCOPY OF YOUR CREDENTIALS TO YOUR REFEREE/SPONSOR FOR CERTIFICATION.

(9) STUDENTS USING AAT RESULT SHOULD PAY N23,500 BEING THE COST OF INDUCTION/CONFERENCE AND ATTACH THE PHOTOCOPY OF THE RECEIPT TO THE FORM.

(10) ATTACH THE FOLLOWING:

1. ORIGINAL COPY OF THE PIN VOUCHER
2. TWO COPIES OF CERTIFIED PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH
3. ORIGINAL COPY OF PAY DIRECT RECEIPT.

NOTE:
IF YOU ARE USING TRANSCRIPT IN PLACE OF NYSC, SUCH TRANSCRIPT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED TO THE REGISTRAR/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF THE INSTITUTE.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINED UNTIL AFTER TWO YEARS OF REGISTRATION.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has injected $9.964 billion into the inter-bank segment of the foreign exchange (forex) market since it commenced its aggressive interventions in February this year, according to Thisday compilation. Banks face new compliance pressures as IFRS 9 deadline looms

The banks are facing tighter regulatory pressures as they prepare to meet International Financial Reporting Standards 9 (IFRS 9) deadline, according to analysts. The implementation on IFRS strongly affects the way credit losses are recognised in the balance sheet and profit and loss (P & L) statement. While impairments are currently based on “incurred losses”, IFRS 9 introduces an approach based on future expectations, namely expected losses (EL). The main impact on banks is the need to recognise EL for all financial products, and at individual and grouped-asset levels. Banks will have to update their calculation at each reporting date to reflect changes in the credit quality of their assets. This will significantly increase the number and frequency of impairment quantifications that must be undertaken and the amount of data that must be processed for such purpose. Ecobank profit drops by 26%

Stanley Opara Ecobank Transnational Incorporated Plc has announced a drop of 26 per cent to $151.3m in its group profit before tax for the 2017 half year. Its profit after tax also dropped by 19 per cent to $123.4m. In naira terms, the bank said its PBT and PAT rose respectively by 11 per cent and 21 per cent, to close at N46.2bn and N37.7bn, accordingly. The bank's gross earnings declined by six per cent to $1.3bn, as loans and advances to customers went up by two per cent to $9.5bn. Commenting on the result, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Ade Ayeyemi, said, "Our audited half year results demonstrated the benefits of our diversified business model. Despite a fragile macroeconomic backdrop in most of our markets, we still generated a 15.6 per cent return on tangible equity and further improved our cost-to-income ratio to 60.6 per cent, driven by our continued cost reduction initiatives across the network.
